The extremely compact way of high-end power generation

The vision behind Hatz products has never changed: enable others to be more efficient. The fusion of expertise and innovative spirit thus also creates reliable, easy-to-use power solutions. For use in hybrid systems, as power outage backup or for continuous power supply — the flywheel-integrated permanent magnet generator, fiPMG for short, prove this once again.
Secure the mission of critical appliances

Numerous applications benefit from the advantages of Hatz fiPMG. This includes among others:

  • mobile lighting towers
  • solar and conventional mobile road signal equipment
  • mobile communications infrastructure
  • electrical lifting equipment
  • motor homes
  • trade show and promotion trailers
  • range extender for full battery driven equipment
  • auxiliary power units in construction machinery
  • ecological power plants

Minimize size and weight

Compared to a conventional generator, the permanent magnet technology convinces with its reduced installation space requirements and less weight. The advantage of the Hatz solution is the extra space-saving integration into the flywheel. This reduces dimensions and mass by up to 90 percent compared to a usual solution.
Conventional vs. permanent magnet
Compared to the conventional design of the engine/generator unit, the flywheel-integrated permanent magnet design reduces the size by 315 mm / 12.4 in and the weight by 17 kg / 37.5 lb. The contactless PMG system has a high degree of efficiency at over 85 percent.
Protect highly sensitive electronics

Whether from AC to DC or from AC to AC — the related inverters ensure consistently high power quality. They also enable adjustment of the engine speed according to load.
Reduce total cost of ownership

The engine only runs as fast as the power demand requires. This extends the lifetime, increases uptime between maintenance and reduces fuel consumption. In addition, this contributes significantly to reduced noise levels.
Never compromise on reliability

With its robustness and longevity, the

sets standards in the market for decades. The engines proved themselves a hundred thousand times even under the toughest conditions.
Be well prepared for the digital age

Hatz E1 technology — the world’s first electronic control for single cylinder diesels — comes as a standard feature and provides all necessary electronics for maximum efficient operation. And it serves as the key to the Internet of Things (IoT) connection.

Power Systems

Whether it is on a building site, in agricultural situations or for garden landscaping, in buildings or on assistance interventions – in fact anywhere where an independent power supply is needed – generating sets from Hatz are the ideal straightforward and reliable power generators. The various designs are used as mains failure solutions, grid in-feed solutions or as permanent power solutions.

Agricultural pressure pumps

The Hatz self-priming clean water pumps are known for their quality and user friendliness. The pressure pumps are specifi cally used for irrigation systems and as booster pumps. With a capacity of up to 4,000 liters/min. the pumps are designed for handling large amounts of water. Smaller pumps are also available with a capacity of 400 liters/min. and are suitable for a variety of professional applications.
All materials used for the pump match the quality levels which are expected from Hatz products. The pump impeller for example is made of very rigid hardened grey cast iron. Gaskets are made of ceramics to further enhance lifetime. Depending on the design a Hatz diesel engine with 1-, 2– or 3-cylinders is used to always off er the best possible performance combined with the optimal consumption. Even under extreme conditions the engines operate reliably and effi ciently.
Application areas

Hatz pressure pumps are used predominantly in the agriculture field in irrigation systems but also as a booster pump where water needs to be transported over long distances or great heights.
Agricultural volume pumps

If higher amounts of clean water need to be raised, Hatz has a number of solutions available. When there is a low sand content and no solids in the water, Hatz pumps can process higher amounts of water rapidly. The pump flow rate ranges from 5,000 up to almost 14,000 l/min. The maximum sand content allowed is 40 g/m³.
The pumps use the larger air-cooled Hatz engines of the L- and M-Series range with 2-, 3- or 4-cylinders. All engines are equipped with an automatic engine protector, which for example could shut off the engine automatically in case of a drop in oil pressure or a failure of the cooling fan.
Application areas

The agricultural volume pump is used mainly for field irrigation systems or when higher amounts of water need to be transported over closer distances. They can also be used by disaster relief organisations in case of floods.

H-series – The new generation of efficient diesel engines.

The release of the Hatz H-series started in 2014. Today, the model portfolio embraces various three-cylinder and fourcylinder models. The new generation of compact and efficient industrial engines follows a downsizing approach with common-rail technology and turbocharger.
Downsizing approach

A groundbreaking downsizing approach was adopted in development of the H-series engines. The key objectives were the reduction of size and weight with simultaneously higher power and good exhaust gas values. The results are very convincing: Weight and consumption values are lower than those of any other engine in this class. This could be achieved, among other factors, thanks to the iHACS technology (intelligent Hatz Advanced Combustion Strategy) with its sophisticated combustion chamber geometry, Bosch injection technology, minimised friction and a maximum charge air pressure of 1.7 bar.

Conservative-innovative engine for a long service life

All mechanical components were designed and developed with a conservative-innovative approach. The H-series engines are equipped with two valves per cylinder, achieving high efficiency, mechanical robustness and functional simplicity. This is expressed in turn by the familiar long service life. Use of premium products for all important components also underlines this.

Bosch common-rail system for ultimate fuel efficiency

One of the key factors for the high power density of the H-series is the common-rail system. Hatz opted for the Bosch off-highway CRS, a common-rail system with 1800 bar. It works with three precisely calculated injections per power stroke: A pre-, main- and post-injection. Together with the other Bosch components matched ideally to each other – high-pressure pump, injector control unit, and off-highway injectors – the perfect balance is achieved between dynamics, quiet combustion noise, low pollutant levels, and economy.

Optimum combustion strategy for every need

The exhaust gas return system was further developed by Hatz engineers to have a positive effect on the exhaust gas values. A pre-cooling unit for the exhaust gas return (EGR) significantly reduces the exhaust gas temperature before the EGR valve, protecting it against thermal damage and sooting. An optimized EGR-mixing-nozzle is also used. It uniformly distributes the recirculated exhaust gases together with the fresh combustion air to all four cylinders. Together with the common rail system, the result is an outstanding exhaust gas quality which ensures that the TIC models are only equipped with a diesel oxidation catalytic converter (DOC) and there is no need for an additional particle filter. Furthermore the engines significantly undercut the emission limits of EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage IIIB.

High maintenance friendliness

A maintenance interval of 500 hours means the engine scores top points with regard to customer friendliness and reliability. The extended intervals are due to hydraulic valve adjustment and large-sized filters. Additionally, the engine has a shut-off sensor system that switches off the engine in an emergency to avoid major damage. The robust construction and careful selection of all components ensure that the engine is fit for the most demanding applications.

Emissions regulation Tier IV and Stage 3B

In terms of exhaust emissions the Year 2013 brought some challenges for manufacturers of off-highway engines. Besides the new emissions standard of the EPA in the US, new standards come into force in the EU as well. The new regulation "Tier IV final" and "EU97/68 Stage 3b" stand for a considerable tightening of the exhaust emissions. While the nitrogen oxides (NOx) and carbon monoxides (CO) in the lower engine-power classes continue to remain at the same level, the amount of diesel particulates need to be reduced drastically especially in the power classes above 19kW, which in some cases requires the use of a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

Tier IV final

Since 2008, the level "Tier IV final" for off-highway engines has been in force in the power class 0-8 kW and 8 - 19 kW. From 2013, this level also applies to the engines in the class from 19 to 37 kW and 37 - 56 kW.
The Hatz diesel B, D and G series engines have fulfilled these limits for several years and are the only small industry diesel engines in the market that meet these strict emission standards over the full line-up without significant additional effort. The only complicating factor is that the test cycles under which the emission limits must be adhered to will change in 2013. The introduction of the NRTC (Non-Road Transient Cycle) with the NTE (Not To Exceed) limits required a major development effort and for some engines a performance reduction of up to 10% of the maximum power.
Engines of the L and M series need a diesel particulate filter in order to meet the new emissions standard, which for the 3 - and 4-cylinder versions is already in the final stage of homologation. The L43C an M43 engine series with DPF will be available by end of the 2nd quarter of 2013. Until the launch of the DPF equipped engine series all engines can still be sold with the so-called "TPEM flex-regulation". The 2-cylinder engines 2M41 and 2L41C fulfil the standards if operated below 19kW. Over 19kW of power the engine will not be available anymore.

EU 97/68 Stage IIIb

In contrast to the emissions standards of the EPA there are different emission levels for variable and constant speed engines in the EU. For engines which run on a constant speed there is an engine available for each of the Hatz engine families which fulfils the regulations already.
For applications where a variable speed engine is needed, there are some limitations for engines above 37kW. For these engines a DPF will be required in future, which will be available from the end of the 2nd quarter of 2013. In the meantime, the OEM flex-regulation will apply.

TPEM and OEM flex regulation

With help of the flex regulation an engine of the previous emission stage can still be sold in the US (TPEM) or EU (OEM) under certain conditions. Usually this special approval is time or quantity limited and is being issued by relevant authorities.

Engine Evolution with Hatz E1 Technology

Since the company was founded, it has been in our corporate DNA to set milestones in engine technology. With the new E1 technology, we are now bringing single-cylinder engines into the networked future.
The World’s first Electronic Control for Single-Cylinder Engines

For the first time, you can benefit from a combination of proven durability, reliability and longevity
in single-cylinder engines with forward-looking electronic components that until now were only available for larger engines and machines.

E1 technology is optimised for Hatz singlecylinder engines.
The interplay of mechanics and electronics...

...optimises engine operation, while also enabling the integrated networking of small equipment for the first time. Interfaces to the control unit allow data to be exchanged at all times. On the one hand, the transfer of data in both directions enables engine data to be analysed, while on the other, it allows new data to be loaded, such as predefined engine speeds or software updates.

Numerous and widely used engines and machines that previously played no role in Industry 4.0 are now part of the digitalisation strategy in companies.
The key component of E1 technology is the control unit

Constant measurements, for example, of the speed and fuel injection rate, provide precise data on the load condition of the machine. In addition to regulating the engine, the control unit sends engine-related data via CAN J1939. For example, the service life, capacity, engine condition or need for service can easily be read. This interface also offers the convenient option to analyse the engine using the HDS² diagnostic tool.

Benefits for You

  • Fewer engine versions because the machine manufacturer can configure the speed individually to suit the application
  • A digital speed setpoint ensures that the speed is accurately maintained, regardless of environmental conditions

  • Ability to perform on-site and remote diagnosis with Hatz HDS²
  • The Hatz control unit offers new, convenient functions, such as starter and engine protection, automatic shutdown when the engine idles for too long
  • Enables Digital Services via data interface
  • Meets the emissions requirements according to EU Stage V and US EPA Tier 4 final

Technologies

Ready today for the EU Stage V emission regulation
The demands on engine design are becoming ever greater due to stricter exhaust gas regulations. With the introduction of EU Stage V (according to the proposal of the EU Commission from September 25th, 2014), the permissible emission values are being driven to even lower levels. With its engines in the power range up to 56 kilowatts, Hatz already chose the right technology at an early stage in order to meet these challenges successfully.

Always one step ahead. Hatz engines up to 19 kilowatts.

Since 2010, Hatz has been the only manufacturer whose entire engine range below 19 kilowatts has qualified to EPA Tier 4. As the requirements of the new EU Stage V emission level in this engine class correspond with the previous US standards, the Hatz engines already fulfil the future EU exhaust gas regulations today.

Open Power Unit (OPU)

All types of the new water-cooled 55 kW engine, the Hatz, are available as a "Open Power Unit". In addition to the standard scope of delivery of the engine, all parts which are required for the operation of the engine are delivered with OPU. These include a radiator and intercooler mounted vibration-decoupled, as well as the appropriate tubing and wiring harness. All parts are installed in the factory during the production process. Thus, the customer only needs to connect tank, pre-filter and pump as well as air filter, battery and control box.

During the development of the OPU, special attention has been paid to the fact that the OPU can be used with a wide range of applications. Therefore, the OPU is already available in lot sizes of one piece. The main application areas of the 4H50TIC OPU are primarily working machines such as hydraulic lifts, hydraulic power units, forestry machinery, drilling rigs and stationary applications such as pumps and generators.

In addition to the flexible use, the 4H50TIC OPU is also characterized by the known attributes of the basic engine. The extremely light weight of the base engine is reflected, of course, in the weight of the complete package. The complete package weighs just 82 kg more than the base engine. In addition, the box dimensions with 699 mm in width, 935 mm in length and 807 mm in height allow flexible installation even in restricted installation space.
